Rio Round-up
Rio's fashion week is now reaching the end. Once again, we had a colorful season there. And that's what we like with Rio, the colors, the mixes and the overall energy. Balenciaga, MiuMiu and Versace influences were spotted in a few shows but what's more expected in mixes than some references melting together in the most unexpected ways ? Well it was a good season for Rio and a good way to start the season which will continue with Sao Paulo this week (can't wait for Osklen) then Couture in Paris.

When it comes to casting it was both relieving and surprising. Or we had good suprises and nice confirmations. First, Carolina Pantoliano was definitely Rio's darling with an unmatched amount of shows she opened and closed. Well done, cause there's no better way to introduce a collection and no better ending than the appearance of "Pants" with her slight smile and dramatic expressions. Luana Teifke, our biggest Brazilian hope from last season confirms her huge potential and did many shows. She's the one that you recognise even on thumbnails, she has her own mark and that's no wonder she's already in high demand for editorials in L'Officiel Brazil and Vogue Brazil (without forgetting her first steps abroad in Spanish NEO2 and US Elle). All we can say is what's next ? Bigger, even bigger it seems. Karin Adam is another brigt star of the catwalks in Rio. She's just shining with what it takes of seriously moody expression to nice little smiles. Great eds to expect, she should fit well between Lais' positive energy and Katarina Ivanovska darker appeal. Good season too for Supreme girls Andressa Fontana (hope this runway perfmormances are calling some more on international shows, like a sweet prelude) and Cristina Jurach who proved to Viviane Orth that the blonde look has already an icon. Though, we still love Viviane but her natural hair color was her extra edge (makes her looking both like la jeune fille sage and an "unexpected hurricane"). We've also been blown away by two newcomers, we've already featured them earlier last week, Jessica Blanco (the next Cicely ?) and Joice Momback with her mermaid look. Last but not least, our child-like empress Fabiana Capra had her best season in Brazil to date and we're just begging for more of her sweet trouble to hit Paris, NY and London runways !

And here is the mix of the mixes, our favorite outfits from Rio f/w 08-09. It's pure eye-cand to see Luana in her pied-de-poule skirt at Apoena, or the quirky combination of a cocktail dress with an oversized jacket at Eliza Conde. The boho/hobo interpretation by Drosofila also counts among the best of Rio, it's not really new but looks attractive and rather fresh. As almost everything that caught our eyes this week, no real new trend, nothing to be launched - and what's really new actually, if not a new way to look at old things ? - but tons of ideas as always. Yellow belt, purple tie and green shirt is the big winner (TNG) and blue lipstick at Homem de Barro the outsider. Mix it all. Next step: Sao Paulo.
