Viktoriya's Secrets

The title was easy to find this week, timing helped a lot and the pun was fun, set and done. Well, we don't have much time left for procrastination tonight so we're not going to turn around the jerrican (in French we use "turn around the pot" but we thought it was a lot fancier to turn around a jerrican): this piece is dedicated to Viktoriya Sasonkina and (almost) nothing or no one else. It all started while reading Sans Artifice two days ago or so. Some bright orange, bright pink, a lot of grey, two talented models and a short story which would perfectly describe our feelings towards that beauty page from Vogue US. We couldn't agree more on how far it is from the usual aesthetic of a December issue and how more shaking, more moving and, in the end, more visually efficient it is.
Styling and Patrick Dermarchelier's photography both play a big part in the strength of this image and the contrast between Viktoriya Sasonkina and Karlie Kloss a lot too. Then we have to be honest at least for a few seconds: we're biased. We're supporting Viktoriya for years already while our interest in Karlie went high and low before we finally did our coming out (remember You can be my cup of tea tonight when she got the cover of 10). Of course, everyone may have his own tastes and his eyes might be attracted by different moods, shapes, colors and other visual delights. Let's just say ours were captured by Ms. Sasonkina's expression - from her melancholic and quiet gaze to the way she holds her head. We could spend hours talking about the shape of her mouth, her eyelids or the combination of her delicate swan neck and strong jawline. Diving into the description and losing ourselves into features and feelings (but we're in a hurry, we've got a book to drink and champagne to read). Let's better say the contrast with Karlie's epic pout is the key. Karlie looks classy but nothing is more heartbreaking than Viktoriya's supplement of soul. Depth, darkness and delicacy.

We were about to write a whole novel on one page of US Vogue when arrived three more from newest Allure. Another (very) short story, another million words pouring in our heads. This time Viktoriya is alone, lonely and epic in black, white and bright yellow shot by Michael Thompson. Strike a pose and shake your nose, it's another Sasonkina-moment on glossy paper, another reason to come and go through our bookstore's doors waiting for a smelly rectangle to put in a plastic bag. Don't even know who's on the cover or what else (and who else) is inside, we might even not see it and read it except the yellow headlines: Behind the Makeup. Or shall we talk about the other side of the makeup like the other side of the mirror ? We feel allowed to be captured.
Trolley, trolley, trolley, rolling after our shoes, don't wait too long honey, we've got no time to lose. Next week will be dedicated to an endless rush and the main theme could be pilchards in matchboxes. Changing the atmosphere, checking out what does the sky looks like from another place. Learning how to spell beauty under another sun. Summer is gone for long it seems but sweetness is in the air and had a stop by our nostrils. Funny evening, the end of a world is the start of another era. Time will either run or stop for ten days. Maybe Viktoriya's new editorials will be released when we're back. If so, all we'll have to do is to sit down on John's cornflake, waiting for the campaigns to come. Or should we expect another glossy spread under our virtual Christmas tree ?
