The Real Deal

Ginta Lapina @ Women

Friday morning, 10 o'clock in the 11th district of Paris, RM by Roland Mouret, styled by Sophia Neophitou and cast by Rami. Had no idea we were attending this show two days ago but got it on schedule, last minute. Love those in the morning even when they leave you less time to update before you start your actual day. Something serious in the air and the kind of place we love to go: not too crowdy, fresh wind and a bit of sun to wake up in good conditions. Said differently it would be: a great way to start a day. During fashion, week especially.

When you see Natasha Poly opening the show, you might have a clue on what to expect from the casting yet that one was not just name-dropping. Read consistent and subtle, tailor-made for the collection and the designer. There is nothing groundbreaking in having Jac or Frida (both actually) as well but, balanced by a touch of intellectual beauty: Sophie Srej, Simona Andrejic and Julija Steponaviciute (yes, we count her in this category), it's just elegance and refinement. Brilliant cast, then.

Though, the real deal yesterday morning was clearly Ginta Lapina. Again, if we are allowed to say so. We included her in another recent entry as a girl who started slow and was just piling up great shows this season. Paris makes no exception to her and her very selected yet extended lineup now includes names like Lanvin, Isabel Marant, Nina Ricci (together with Viktoriya, powerful combo) and the cherries on the top could easily be RM by Roland Mouret and Balmain. Another entry dedicated to Ginta already seemed to make sense this way but that's not everything we have to say.

First, during the show. Square place, natural light and models going back and forth. Everyone was just perfect in the casting and that's even more spectacular to see one of the girls being able to stand out in these conditions. Ginta's walk is a moment of grace spiced up with a touch of power. Much rythm but in such a delicate way you don't get the impression at all that she tries to smash the ground with her heels (like too many still do). Looking at Ginta modeling a collection is seeing the outfits in action and that's what the job is all about in then end: bringing the clothes to life. Seriously, who's still waiting for an army of clothes hangers to cross the runway and just show you a collection in its most objective way ? It doesn't necessarily mean to bring back characters from another era when you have Ginta around but her own story shows how it takes time to build such a status.
