The Alpha and The Omega

Nancy Williams @ FM (London)

We're quite happy with this new opportunity to drop a few words on Nancy Williams and quite glad about the total sync with the party thrown tonight by Centrefold Magazine where the pictures above are from. Shot by Ben Weller on a China Girl theme -- think of the song rather than the country -- we're in love with the simple fact it highlights Nancy the way she is, striking yet subtle. Sounds like easy-writing if you consider we only feature girls we think are striking or at least have everything to become it soon or later, but even if we had spent a full hour to find the right words it wouldn't be much different. Facts are easy and obvious actually: Nancy is just talented and it shows, no need to step too far away from that.

Another little thing worth mentioning is how Nancy embodies the new generation at FM Agency, "built by" FM. Built in its most geniune meaning, not only putting one page after the other in her portfolio but also helping her to shape a proper image and making sure her signature becomes her "stamp". It goes from branding her with cool polaroids highlighting her even cooler look to creating a serious editorial lineup (Dansk earlier this year and now Centrefold).

A few words on the magazine now, which certainly deserves its place in the spotlight tonight too. According to Creative Review, Centrefold is bi-annual and big size -- one of those you prefer to get pictures from the editors or the model agencies than having to scan it to make a preview but that you love to have in your hands and at the office. One frustrating thing for us this evening (besides not being at the party) came when we read on the mag's twitter about the smell of fresh paper. Simply love this, love the theme of the issue too and the way they explored it. Vintage is the key word but in such a sophisticated and contemporary way you can't feel the blast from past and it surely isn't ripping off the soul of another era. Actually it makes us think of the omega when you have a close look at the sign. Go on, draw one on the first piece of paper you find and see where are the extremes. So far, so close -- like past and future, somehow.
