Fashion does it Better

Young Hearts Are Free (The SELECTion)

Maaike, Amy, Ellie, Frida, Lottie, Katie, Nia, Nadia, Cassie and Odile Coco @ Select (London) At this exact moment (writing this piece) we're still hesitating between two distinct titles. Usual dilemma, less usual feature. Shall we go for the inspiration of the moment, which would be Young Hearts Are Free or something like that. Or for the nickname we gave to the project while working on it: The SELECTion. Because that's where our hesitation is, between putting emphasis... [Lire la suite]

SuperCasting at SuperModels

It's going to be one of the biggest casting event in Europe this year, it's going to take place at the end of this week. On Sunday, 16th of May, Supermodels Model Management will hold a huge casting in Vilnius with no less than (or more or less) 200 girls attending the event to be seen by several international scouts and representative of foreign agencies. We had experiences of open castings gathering hundreds of girls but this one will only show girls carefully selected by the mother agency which makes it a totally different... [Lire la suite]

Casting Connections at Sharon Wauchob Fall 2010

HANNE GABY ODIELE To tell you the truth, we didn't attend as many shows as we used to as we spent less time in Paris while our schedule was heavier than ever. Though, one we wouldn't miss for anything on earth is Sharon Wauchob. For the silhouettes on the runway of course but as a model-focused webpage, mostly for the impeccable casting they never fail to have there. Our favorite motto being that every casting has to be a statement (or at least to reflect the mood of a collection), Wauchob's has been on the top of our list for... [Lire la suite]

Alternative Statements

Gaspard Yurkievich quickly became a regular name on our Paris to-do-list and it's not without any good reason behind. Skipping a meeting for the sake of a casting reminds us our core business includes much more than making then strenghtening connections, like going where things happen and try to find out why. What happened at Yurkievich this season is not very different from previous seasons but that's actually the point, this runway keeps playing its role of highlighting potential major future forces in fashion modeling. Besides... [Lire la suite]

TMSRRE The Sequel Part 1

Barbara Palvin at Prada, backstage from Over the last seasons, our TMSRRE series (The Most Subjective Runway Reviews Ever) could include more than 30 girls. This time we thought we should rather slow down our show coverage's pace as castings have become trickier than ever. No real point anymore in featuring one girl or another based on her most recent runway appearances, even backed by some serious editorial proofs or prospects. Walking this or that show doesn't mean as much as it could have in the past or maybe everybody is... [Lire la suite]

One Night in Riga

We couldn't not call it One Night in Riga even if the whole event lasted a little longer than an evening and we even spent two days just to arrive in town through trains and buses. Ford Supermodel of the World in Baltic countries was hosted by 2B Models, the agency who will take care of the girls found via the contest and we already know the level of management they can expect from the latvian boutique. Nikole Ivanova's or Laine Rogova's debuts could be pointed as good example of the great teamwork done so far by Ford and 2B. The... [Lire la suite]

Ford Finale in the Baltics: 48 Hours and 5 Winners

Megija Twenty four hours to come and twenty four hours tomorrow to go back to full-time blogging. Fourty eight hours with a lot of action in between. Riga was supposed to be a cold place at this time of the year but we only have hot news. Ford Supermodel of World's finale for Baltic countries took place less than two days ago and the winners are just as impressive as the contest's name. Five girls were selected for the World Finale in Sao Paulo but all the contestants are actually worth a few lines. So, we're going to make it in two... [Lire la suite]

Eight Days to Countdown

Scouting goes from "get discovered by chance at your local shopping-mall" to "be seen, be signed - rush to worlwide events". Usually we're more focused on street-scouting and lucky discoveries, we still enjoy the charms of the good-old way to find new talents. But contests have definitely started to take their own place in our heart as another reliable process of discovering models after attending a couple of them at a small-town level. A good way not to overlook anyone and when they are run by high-profile... [Lire la suite]

The Ones Who Stopped By Will Fly Higher

Valerija Kelava @ Next (Paris) Gaspard Yurkievich didn't disappoint - as always. Seems that the famous casting director behind the faces of Spring Summer 2010 did her work with much love and managed once again to strengthen the aesthetic of the collection. Faces you have to remember, faces that need no efforts to remember. Good mix with a few surprising newcomers who were worth to meet this season. High level means also high level of surprise. If the whole week wasn't as thrilling as this so far, Gaspard Yurkievich... [Lire la suite]
