Love, love in the trash-can
It was Jeremy Scott s/s 08 collection. Unfortunately I hadn't the opportunity to attend the show, was still at Veronique Branquinho when it took place. Though I managed - it's not really hard these days - to see the complete set of pictures and could tell you what I like and why I like it.
If the first outfits didn't really catch my attention, some interesting ideas were spread all over the second part part of the show. Sure, there are the hats, the mad hats, the bad hats that let you know the topic and the touch of humour yet I won't take this as a humoristic or ironical collection, simple the creations of a funny and rather inspired designers. You will agree or not. I've even read somewhere that he could be a kind of today's Franco Moschino. Quite accurate comparison I'd say, I've got the same feelings towards this collection than with some Moschino's work. There is kitsch and second degree, there is also interesting garments.
Blue and grey prints were great on dresses and coats, fancy but never tacky. Same about the yellow mesurement tape trousers and the colorful prints where you read "taxi cabs only", especially the one with a huge collar, another aspect of Scott's work I like. And I really loved Agyness as a trash-can-bride.
If this is a joke, even a bad one, I'm laughing. Because it's funny, for sure. Because clothing sometimes needs a bit of joking. And those who don't understand it can always stick peacefully to a little black dress and let us enjoy what could become our private joke.
