Gucci resort 08
For her Gucci resort collection, Frida Giannini seems to reinvent a certain conception of refinement. It perfectly fits the zeitgeist but looks timeless... and that makes it even fit it more strongly. First, green is at its best, the right shade to get on well with the whole collection. It's very Gucci by Frida Giannini, I mean it's quite far away from any cliché of the Italian brand. I like ! No pencil dress but full dresses - definitely an interesting trend among resort collections. Gucci is evolving, for the best, though there is a real Gucci-vibe. It's pure re-interpretation and it's well done, tasty and clever. It was big time to get rid of some old images we had and last f/w collection wasn't able to do it right, so I'm glad Frida managed it this time. Trompe-l'oeil red tie on the first top, vertical-striped short dress, yellow trench coat... strong pieces mix well with a strong unity in this collection.
As nostalgy isn't always fashion's best friend, people who think Gucci has lost it's identity should think twice. Time and trends go by and we should look forward, let our imagination work out the new conceptions of elegance instead of repeating without end that "Gucci has to be sexy" without even taking one minute to ask ourselves what sexy does really mean. What does it mean ?
