We've noticed them almost together a while ago. They were new faces, brand new faces at that time. Sveta's first steps in Kiev and Katia's debuts in Siberia both led them to the NY agency Trump Model Management and they started appearing on runways and editorials. Things were rather quiet, though. Since their promising first season, we hadn't actually many opportunities to see them. Some good pictures were released, by Chadwick Tyler for Katia, by Yana Toyber for Sveta who recently appeared on London runways. Katia's latest pieces include some editorials for a french/russian magazine. That's not bad but doens't seem to be enough right now. And the "where are they ?" often comes back when you pronounce their names. Indeed, it's pretty hard to get enough of the models you like. Especially when the potential is there and the expectations are quite high. It actually happens to many models and probably it will happen again in a near future. Among all the new faces that popped up on the runways and in magazines these last two season, how many of them will have some high and low in their career ? Recent examples like Georgina Stojilkovic and especially Karmen Pedaru having their moment in f/w 08-09 after having been some "exiciting and upcoming" new faces a long while ago. Both had little opportunities here and there, Karmen already peaked a few seasons ago at Christopher Kane then remained silent almost until last month. That's why we won't and we can't throw away our hopes and expectations for both Katia and Sveta. There are models that only ready after a longer time spent only on smaller runways and confidential magazines. And sometimes the market isn't ready too and will be the season after. We never really know all the details. Nobody can fully rely on expectations, as high as they are. As obvious as it seems. Not even the most influent casting directors or the biggest agencies worldwide. The fashion and models industry wouldn't be the same without its high amount of surprises. It's sometimes disappointing to see one of your favorite model not surviving your expectations as it's always exciting to see the other one you didn't expect anymore getting attention on the late. We remain faithful in these two models' potential as we always do. Always remember what was the reason they've caught our eyes. Katya was a cute childlike lady when she started, she's now grown up a little and strengthened her intense gaze balancing some soft features. Sveta's moody attitude (and fantastic jawline) will probably never fade away. We might be preaching in the desert right now but this article's goal isn't to promote this or that model and we don't expect from it to propel Sveta and Katia to a higher level or anything. Simply consider it as the vision behind our "Yesterday was too early" series: maybe they will follow Karmen and Georgina later, maybe they'll disappear for ever soon but we still believe in the models we like, till the end. And whatever happens.
